Envision A Big Future

It’s quite simple, really. We pair volunteers (Bigs) with children (Littles) in a variety of different mentoring programs including community-based, academic, and sports-centric programming to pair the talents of our Bigs with the needs of our Littles. These matches are monitored and supported to ensure enduring, positive, and meaningful relationships. This creates a ripple effect across the lives of the children served, their families, the mentor, and generations to follow.

  • Plug into a big community

Give your time. Community-based mentoring matches 9- to 13-year-old children with a Big Brother or Big Sister to participate in low or no cost activities within the community a couple times a month over the course of a year.

  • Play a big game

Grab your gear. Sports Buddies provides one-to-one mentoring friendships between an adult and a child in a group setting through participatory and spectator sporting events.

  • Chart a big course

Bring your knowledge. Mentor2.0 matches high school students in our partnership schools with college-educated mentors to help them graduate high school and explore post-secondary options.

Community Mentoring
Community Mentoring

Big Brothers Big Sisters Community-based mentoring program matches 9- to 13-year-old children with a Big Brother or Big Sister. Mentors are expected to commit to meet with their mentee for a minimum of one year. Throughout the mentoring relationship, BBBSC program staff monitor the match and provide support to the mentor. Typically, mentees and mentors meet two to four times each month, with each meeting lasting at least last 2-4 hours. The mentoring relationship is designed to:

Provide a sense of safety, security, and emotional support

Build social skills and positive relationships

Develop goal setting skills

Improve self-confidence, academic achievement, and future aspirations

Our programs serve youth by providing them with safe, quality mentoring relationships that help them reach their full potential by improving their sense of self and community, improving their school performance, and achieving a greater sense and awareness of their future.

"I don't think Jaron knows just how much his donated time has changed Cyprese for the better. There is so much hope and pure happiness in Cyprese’s eyes… I would say he saved my sons future, saved his life."

- Cyprese’s mom (Vanessa)

Sports Buddies
Sports Buddies

The Sports Buddies program develops one-to-one mentoring friendships between an adult and child through participatory and spectator sporting events. Sports Buddies activities are designed to deepen mentoring relationships while supporting self-confidence, goal setting, collaboration, skill development, and healthy lifestyles.

Activities take place on Saturdays and last an average of 2-4 hours. Activities range from spectator sports such as professional, collegiate, and high school basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball, to participatory activities such as capture the flag, dodgeball, kickball, flag football, ultimate frisbee, hiking, and fishing. During each activity, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ staff observe the matches to monitor and support the development of each mentoring relationship.

"The best decision that I ever made was to contact BBBS regarding their Sports Buddies program. The friendships that my son developed with not only his match, but with the program specialists too, have helped him make better life choices."
